Overall I thought this museum was interesting, more interesting than the Bowers Museum. This museum was based on modern visual art. There were a lot of dark rooms. A lot of it did not make sense to me but i tried to thoroughly enjoy it. My favorite room was in the fourth picture, a couple of tvs showing the same image, but it was kinda weird because the lady on the tv wasn't making sense. this was a new art form to me, and well it was a good experience. Id recommend going on a Friday like i did because its FREE, its very small and you can easily go through it in less than an hour. Interesting to say the least, but i didnt really enjoy it.

Bowers Museum in Santa Ana

Overall i enjoyed this museum. it had a lot of old artifacts and a lot of interesting things. There were lots of artifacts from different cultures in this museum. The had a big exhibit from the terra cotta warriors that i wasnt able to attend :( but looked really interesting. My favorite exhibit was the sperm whale one. it showed a lot of objects that were made during the times of whale hunting. its sad to see what we killed whales for, but at the same time amazing how certain objects had extremely high value.  overall i spent about an hour and half  at this museum, but it was well spent. i definately enjoyed what was on display.

Lecture Analysis 10-18-11

This lecture was really fun. We watched clips of Avatar. This lead to a talk about identity. In the movie Jake believed that when he was in his avatar form that it was his actually reality. He felt this way since he felt more alive since in his real body he was not able to walk since he was paralyzed. Later in the movie he knows that he belongs in his avatar form and * spoiler alert * he transfers himself into the avatar body permanentAly. After the clips Glenn showed us pictures of people and descriptions of who they pretend to be online. Some people choose to tAke an identity of somebody totally different then themselves. While others are proud to be who they are. Everybody has the right to be who they want to be. Glenn showed us a picture of a woman who was I believe Filipino. She would travel to different locations and take on the role as if she were part of a group since she was born. There is nothing bad about being who you want to be. This lecture left me thinking, and I do think it's important not to judge others.

Lecture analysis 10/11/11

i didnt know what to expect on this day in class. Glenn made it fun tho, we had a big discussion about how we want to run the class. we then spent most of the class wondering if we could actually draw. i myself am not that food at it. Glenn gave us a blank piece of paper, and we started drawing in sections. in the end it ended up being a man on a chair. he told us to shut off our brain and draw without thinking. its crazy how well it worked kuz in the end i had a drawing of something i wouldnt have thought i could draw. it was really fun and interactive :)

October 4th Art class

I myself think that this class day was very interactive. Since we cant have any field trips, being outside and having a sorta lecture outside is fun. The whole class split up into groups of three and we were handed a roll of tape. With this tape we had to tape something that we thought was interesting to our group. My group chose the main Cypress College Structure located next to the Admissions Building and Bookstore. I cant remember the name of it to save my life haha. Nonetheless we chose that and gave our reasoning. It is interestesting to see differnt critiques from people to see what they see. Critiques are important to art since everyone has a different opinion of what a peice of art actually represents. It can be completely obvious, or it can by something so well symbolized that only some people can comprehend. Regardless, i thought that this lecture was fun, and I think we should have class outside more often :)

Lecture Summary September 27th

GRAFFITI

GOOD or BAD? Well that depends who you ask, and what the circumstances of where it is placed. Glenn started off the class by asking us for our input on this topic. It is a debatable topic since it has both good and bad parts to it. We can argue that it is a great way to express art, but at the same time argue that it is a bad thing to do on public property. Then again what really is public property? If way pay taxes on the roads and walls the city builds, does it not technically give us the right to deface it given that we pay for it? There are many great murals that are painted by graffiti artists, and depending where you are in the world the styles change. Although graffiti does get a bad reputation by these "artists" and "gangs" who feel it is cool to write gibberish on property to represent that it belongs to them. These type of people i do not appreciate, but i do appreciate the actual artists who take days to complete a mural that is planned out freehand on the spot most of the time. I feel like graffiti is a great way to express yourself as an art, but only if it is done in a spot that has the permit to do so.  Although some people dont have access to it, they still like to express themselves through way of a spray can. The world may never have one PROFESSIONAL graffiti artist, but many of these artists have talent and go unrecognized since some might be breaking the law. All i know is that graffiti is very expressive and i enjoy taking pictures of actual vibrant colored graffiti.
